Substance Use Disorders

Addiction. Abuse. Dependence. These are commonly used terms for what is now referred to as substance use disorder. Addiction, abuse and dependence can seem like judgemental terms, and may make it hard for a person to reach out for help.

We need to recognize that substance use disorder is a medical condition; it is a disease that affects a person’s brain, changing their behaviour and mood in a way that makes them unable to control their use of legal or illegal drugs, or legal or illegal behaviours. Substance use disorders can involve multiple substances including tobacco, alcohol, stimulants, hypnotics, and opioids.

At Recovery Care, we are a harm reduction clinic focused on substance use disorders for legal or illegal drugs, including opioids, narcotics and alcohol.

Substance use disorders are far reaching and affect everyone. Regardless of how you got here, we believe everyone matters; we believe everyone deserves a chance at recovery.

At Recovery Care, we understand that everyone is unique. We believe in treating the whole person and are committed to supporting you with respect and dignity.

Our programs are focused on the medical component of treating the substance use disorder. In addition, we offer mental health programs which are essential to every treatment plan. We are also focused on physical health and have implemented a 5 day per week hepatitis C program, which has a 95% cure rate.

We believe that if we can help take care of the physical health issues you may have, you can better focus on your treatment plan for substance use disorder.

Individualized Approach

Treatment for a patient depends on many different things, including their overall health. The physician will work with the patient to develop the best plan for them.

After the physician has established the plan for treatment, patients will have an immediate consultation with a pharmacist.

In most cases, the pharmacist can start dispensing treatment immediately and ongoing support will be discussed with the patient.
