What is Sublocade maintenance treatment?

Sublocade maintenance treatment is one treatment method for opioid use disorder. The treatment method is called opioid substitution therapy.

About Sublocade

Sublocade helps to prevent opioid withdrawal and prevents or eliminates drug cravings. It is an extended-release solution for injection available in pre-filled syringes. This acts as an alternative to the opiate which a person has been previously using. Before starting Sublocade many patients have been prescribed Suboxone for 7 days prior. Central to Sublocade maintenance treatment is the provision of counselling, case management, and other medical services to help the patient with their substance use disorder.

Sublocade buprenorphine-extended release injection is recommended for the treatment of moderate to severe opioid use disorder for those 18 to 64 years of age.

How the Sublocade Program Works

The program is based on an outpatient Harm Reduction Model, and consists of 5 steps;

An initial intake interview and registration
A physician consultation, medical examination, and laboratory tests where appropriate
Creation of a personalized treatment plan
Receiving a regular Sublocade injection every 4 weeks, administered by a nurse or physician
Personal counselling and regular medical and drug testing follow-up throughout the course of treatment

How Sublocade is taken

Sublocade is an injection available as a pre-filled syringe. The injection is administered at one of our locations by a nurse or a physician. The injection is given every 4 weeks.
